Krakow’s name derives from its legendary founder Krak, who ‘built this ancient town above a cave occupied by a dragon’ - now the cave is called the Dragon’s Den and visitors sightseeing it can almost smell the whiff of prehistoric times there… The shape of Cracow’s Old Town has not virtually changed since the Middle Ages.

Krakow, one of the oldest towns in Poland and Poland’s former capital, now is a city with a long historical tradition and rich cultural heritage. Cracow’s enormous variety of historic architecture includes Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Art Nouveau buildings, and its churches, palaces, and mansions display a great variety of color and architectural details. Cracow is a city of dozens of museums housing untold wealth of the finest and priceless works of art of all kinds.

One of the most unusual museums in the world - The Main Market Square Underground Museum - takes visitors to the medieval Cracow, you can see there objects found during last excavations, you can see actual medieval roads and a lot more….

Among many fascinating museums in Cracow is also the Archeological Museum: visitors are impressed by exhibitions presenting life from prehistoric times till present, and they can see objects from ancient Egypt, including Egyptian mummies.

Cracow means not only the city centre, but also the environs of the city: there you can see the impressive 1000-year-old Benedictine Abbey of Tyniec and an unusual, picturesque Cameldolite Church and Hermitage on Silver Mountain.

Cracow is also famous for its festivals, e. g. the Jewish Culture Festival, Off Camera Festival, Summer Jazz Festival, International Festival of Early Music, and a lot of others.

After a day of sightseeing, visitors can relax in one of the numerous cafés, street cafés, or restaurants, enjoying the atmosphere of this unusual city.
